Kristin’s Author Talks & Workshops

Primary School

Kristin is available for author talks and workshops for students in grades K-6 (workshop ideas listed below). She will tailor sessions to suit student levels, interests and your desired curriculum outcomes.

For large groups, sessions are delivered verbally and interactively, using prompts and playful activities to get every student’s imagination firing without the pressure of writing alone. For smaller groups, the approach goes deeper, with Kristin guiding students step-by-step through developing a character from scratch, then using that character to uncover the essential building blocks of a story.

Kristin is looking forward to being part of your students’ creative journey.

Secondary School

After working as a journalist for more than 20 years, Kristin loves sharing her experience as a Television reporter and producer to support students with their non-fiction writing journey. She can adapt her media writing, persuasive writing and interview skills workshops for the experience and learning level of your students.

Kristin is also excited to share her storytelling secrets and creative journey with aspiring writings in Secondary School.

Kristin Darell’s Character Equation and storytelling workshops invite students to draw on their own experiences, memories, and everyday knowledge as the spark for brand-new stories. Rather than teaching writing as a technical exercise, Kristin encourages children to see themselves as natural storytellers, showing them how to take what’s familiar and twist it into something fictional, surprising, and fun.

Adults talks & Festivals

Kristin is an experienced interviewer and panel chair for Festivals and literary events. She has facilitated both online and in-person interviews.

Kristin is happy to conduct interviews, be a moderator, or participate in panels talking about her experience transitioning from journalism to writing for children. She can also talk to the importance of children’s literature from her work as Program Manager for the Australian Children’s Laureate Foundation.
